I only use IE7 for my company's intranet pages & webapps, & they had become painfully slow to deal with.....particularly our internal SharePoint, which would take almost a full minute to load each page. I tried navigation in FF, & the speed was normal, though the functionality was limited due to FF not using .NET framework. So, this led me to believe that it was something specific to the IE browser. I disabled the IE DivX add-ons mentioned in this post, restarted IE, & everything is fine now.
