After you installed DivX Software (standard free of charge DivX package4 including codec, player, evaluation version of converter etc.) your Internet Explorer may start to display following error message directly after browser start or while surfing:
The error message:
Message: 'JSON' is undefined
Line: 418
Char: 6
Code: 0
URI: about:blank
Somehow DivX Internet Explorer add-ons caused this message: after we disabled them – everything started to work as before.
There are numerous articles in internet describing alternative ways – up to changing code of a web site and so on, but what code do you expect in about:blank ?
Enjoy!

Just to confirm, this also happened to me as soon as i updated DIVX.
It also happened to me... looks like a bug in DivX software...
Same here. Almost lost my cool before I found this post. Thanks, and good luck all!
thanks a lot, that really helped. this error code is a problem for a web programmer, especially alway popping up when testing.
Thank you so much for this information. I have this problem after installing Divx. It seems to me every version of Divx software has a plethora of bugs. Last time I installed the Divx software and didn't allow Divx to auto update it would crash whenever a Divx file was played. You check the box and magically it would work. You uncheck the box to auto update and it instantly stopped working.
To the Divx software programmers. You suck!
Thanks a bunch! It really helped me
Thanks you so much. Saves me time for clean install after all else failed. Will not be usig Divx anymore. Cheers.
"Disabled" all three Divx add-ons in IE8 and the JSON error no longer occurs. Thanks so much for the posting...
This post solved my problem. Cheers!
A user got this error on a PC using Sharepoint 2007, Office 2007 and Windows XP. It was a long search for a solution until I found this article.
Bless you.
Regards,
Lonny
The solution worked also on my netbook (Windows 7 Enterprise 32).
The solutions correct the JSON error and the security alert popup.
Many thanks

wow... super, i had this problem for the past couple of weeks. It works fine now after disabling DIVX addons. thanks much
O.K., one more thank-you. I googled "'JSON' is undefined" and found this explanation. I didn't associate the Divx upgrade with the error message appearing on my home page (about:blank), but once I diasabled the three Divix add-ons the error message notification went away. I really appreciate your posting about this!
I had the same problem. Disabling Divix add-ons solved the issue. Thanks a lot!!
Thanks a lot. it fixed my issue.
Thanks. Worked for me too.
Thanks a lot! Worked for me! Why would DivX do zat!
Thanks a lot for this tip.
I had this JSON issue and fixed it by disabling the DivX add-ons...

It got me a it nervous!
Dude, please tell me that youre heading to create more. I notice you havent written another blog for a while (Im just catching up myself). Your blog is just too important to become missed. Youve received so much to say, such knowledge about this subject it would be a shame to see this blog disappear. The internet needs you, man!
Seriously!??! WOW! Thankx for post. As a programmer that #$$%* error was really pissing me off.
I don't know how you figured it out but THANK YOU!!!
Screw DivX, it used to be the best codec, but not anymore, i hate it. It's bloatware and now this stupid autoupdate "feature" stops all my media players from working. Going to stick with MPEG 4 with H.264.
Thank you very much! You have know idea how much I appreciate this!
Finding the solution to this error totally rocks!!
THANKS A LOT GUYS. GOT RID OF THIS "JSON" ERROR AFTER AN YEAR. ALL U GUYS ARE PERFECTLY RIGHT WHEN U SAY DIVX IS PROBLEMATIC. THANK U VERY MUCH.
This is the first time I comment on your site, but I've been keeping up with your work for about a moth. I admire the passion with which you write the articles and dream that someday I can do the same. Love
This was exactly the issue I had been dealing with, but didn't realize what it was until finding this post. I only use IE7 for my company's intranet pages & webapps, & they had become painfully slow to deal with.....particularly our internal SharePoint, which would take almost a full minute to load each page. I tried navigation in FF, & the speed was normal, though the functionality was limited due to FF not using .NET framework. So, this led me to believe that it was something specific to the IE browser. I disabled the IE DivX add-ons mentioned in this post, restarted IE, & everything is fine now. Thanks for the info!
Awesome. Had this also after DIVX but did not realise it as I installed couple of other things as well. Thanks a bunch.

Dude, you're the man - disabling DivX add-ons fixed same error problem driving me batty in Outlook Web Access!
I have never seen better than this site.
Hi, I also have same issue with IE8 and SharePoint. But its work fine with IE. I tried with disabling all the add-ons. Any suggestions ?
to be clear: the error appears with ALL the add-ons disabled? sure?
How do I disable DivX?
Not sure what you mean:
1. disable DivX browser helper
or
2. uninstall DivX
What if you get his error and do not have DivX installed?
Should be another Plug-In dealing with JSON
Thanks a lot, it worked perfect
In addition to DIVX, I've disabled Google tool bar. Now it works properly on every site
In IE open the compatibility view settings and remove the localhost from the listbox for "Websites you have added to Compatibility View".
It worked for me.
I dont see DIVX add on in IE 8, But I still get the 'JSON Undefined'.
can you please suggest what else could be the issue?
which extentions are installed in your IE8?
Just Reset IE 9 Browser settings, seems to be working fine.
I don't have DivX installed and yet am getting this error. Any help would be appreciated
try to uninstall all the add-ons or at least start IE in safe mode - does the error still appear?
